Our new eco-friendly servers: boosting your performance
At the end of 2023, we said goodbye to Norbert, Cook and Al-Wazzan, three of our longest-serving hosting servers. They have been replaced by newer, faster and more energy-efficient machines. Here’s why, and how your websites have benefited.
Why change servers that are working fine?
- Performance: a newer server responds more quickly, and your pages load faster.
- Energy: for the same workload, a newer machine uses less energy.
- Reliability: over the years, the risk of a server failing increases; it’s better to replace it before that happens.
Fewer servers, used more efficiently
A newer machine does the work of several older ones. Today, we’re running half as many servers as we did before this upgrade, whilst achieving greater efficiency.
And what about the old servers?
Our servers are leased from OVHcloud, our long-standing partner, which recovers the decommissioned machines and reuses as many components as possible to build new configurations.
How your websites have benefited
- faster-loading pages, which matters to both your visitors and Google;
- improved availability;
- a migration planned to ensure there is no interruption to the service.
Offsetting the remaining impact
Even a modest server consumes energy. AmaZili offsets its carbon footprint by planting fruit trees on the grounds of its head office.
